What is Saxon Fencing Club?

We would describe ourselves as a recreational fencing club (as opposed to a "centre of excellence" or dedicated training club).

Our members are of every level, from novices who finished their beginner course with in the last year, to those who have fenced competition at international level. All of us are united by our love of the sport. We like sword fighting! We cater for all three weapons (foil, épée, and sabre), at all the above levels. There is plenty to do for both the novice and veteran alike.

We are very fortunate to have three high level coaches and so have a very good coach to pupil ratio. This guarantees regular lessons if you want them. We also organise group sessions for footwork and improvers sessions. If you wish to work in a group, that can be done. For example, last year half a dozen of us pooled our coaching to learn sabre together.

We are an adult club, but take youngsters on at 14 years, we particularly wish to encourage beginners and youngsters as we appreciate their importance to the sport's future. It is for them, and the general public, that most of this site is intended, to give an introduction to, and provide a guide to the sport. Hopefully to entice some to have a go!

We go to the pub after the session.

Younger Junior fencing (under 14's) is conducted by the Twyford Sports Centre, through Ealing Borough Council. Please contact them for junior fencing. Details and term dates from the Centre Manager Jim Morris, 020 8993 9095 or email twyfordsc@ealing.gov.uk. Not us.

Other fencers please note: that we do not shut down over the Easter, summer or winter vacations, so you are welcome to come along if your club does. There is a small visitor's fee for the two hours, but visitors are not entitled to coaching. We do not charge for the first visit.

As a BFA club we will be enforcing the new clothing regulations as of 1st January 2006.
so No 350N breeches means no fencing, non-electric foil beginners excepted.
